We know the thought of your pet undergoing surgery is stressful, which is why we can assure you that our surgical team is dedicated to every pet’s successful procedure and full recovery. We do everything we can to minimize risks and ensure your pet’s safety and comfort from start to finish.

Surgical Safety

Prior to surgery, we will perform a complete physical exam of the animal and pre-anesthetic blood work options to ensure your pet is healthy enough for surgery.

During the surgery, your pet will receive IV fluids to ensure proper blood pressure and hydration. To maintain adequate breathing during the procedure, an endotracheal tube is used to deliver oxygen and anesthetic gases directly to the lungs. Your pet’s vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygenation are monitored as well.

A dedicated veterinary technician will be with your pet during the surgery and throughout recovery. To prevent hypothermia, your pet will be kept warm throughout the procedure and recovery in ICU with hot air blankets and warm water pads.

Minimize Pain and Stress

Relieving pain and suffering is an important part of our mission at Lake Animal Hospital. Pets have similar neurological pathways and experience stress and pain in much the same way that people do. We utilize a multimodal approach to manage pain in our surgical patients.

Hospitalization is stressful for both pets and their owners. We are dedicated to minimizing the hospital stays for our surgery patients. We also believe that pets recuperate from surgery better at home, where they feel more comfortable and less stressed. Over 95% of our surgery patients go home the same day of surgery.
